Have you ever been to an ethnic market and felt a little lost in translation? Curious about ethnic ingredients and want to learn more about them?

Come join me as I start exploring in Chicagoland ethnic neighborhoods. I've always been interested in learning about new, unfamiliar cooking ingredients of other cultures. We're fortunate that Chicago has many ethnic shops & markets and I'd like to take advantage of them.

When is the last time you experienced a traveling buffet of Asian specialties? If you have never had Chinese dim sum, this is an event you dont want to miss! We will be enjoying a Chinese brunch of dim sum in Chicago?s Chinatown. Afterwards, we will walk the streets of Chinatown to peek into an Asian grocery store, bakery and souvenir shops.

Dim sum is the name for a Chinese cuisine which involves a wide range of light dishes served alongside Chinese tea. It can include dishes based on meat, seafood, vegetables, as well as desserts and fruit. The various items are usually served in a small steamer basket or on a small plate that are brought to the table by rolling carts.

Lets meet for Chinese Dim Sum at a local favorite, Phoenix Restaurant. A feast of various dim sum will be provided so be sure to come hungry. From there, we will stroll either Wentworth (Older Chinatown section) or the Chinatown Mall across the street.

If you can find a spot on the street or small parking lot across the street, take it! Otherwise, you can park in the lot just east of the restaurant. Bring your parking ticket with you for free validation so you don?t have to pay for the lot.

If you are coming via public transportation, get off at the Cermak red line. The restaurant is just 2 blocks away from the stop
