Hey Everyone, Professor Java on Wolf Road is starting their Tea Club meetings for the 2009-2010 year. I thought this would be a great chance to invite some of our members to showcase their interest in tea. There is a cap of five people, since they are pretty filled already. Great chance to try some teas, learn from tea enthusiasts, and eat some good food (we can bring dishes if we desire, I know I will). There is a fee of 10 dollars. I'll include their email below. Hope to see you there: -------------------- -------------------- ------------------ >>It's that Time Again..... >> The Start of New Tea Club Year! >> >> Can you believe the summer has come >> and gone and the leaves are already changing? >> >> Beat the end of the summertime blues with a few cups of Tea >> at the Homecoming Tea Club of the 2009-2010 Season. >> >> Tea Club starts up this Monday, September 21, 2009 >> at 6:30pm in the Library Room at Professor Java’s Coffee Sanctuary. >> >> The start up theme will be "Back to Basics - Tea 101" >> >> Just a quick beginning of the year tea review and perhaps >> some new Diviniteas that Linda has developed over the summer. >> >> As always, Professor Javas will pair the teas with >> deliciously creative vegetarian/vegan friendly fare. >> >> We always welcome anyone wishing to bring a dish >> if they wish show off their culinary prowess! >> >> So excited to see everyone for a fabulous new year of Tea Club! >> >> Hope to see you there this Monday!

You can be adventurous with a backup plan! Tosca, an award-winning restaurant focusing on local ingredients, is throwing a Cinco de Mayo brunch! Mexican and Mexican-inspired dishes are available, as well as the classic brunch standbys (e.g. omelette station, waffle station, bacon and sausage, carving station, baked goods, smoked seafood). I'll be happy to post the non-Mexican-inspired portion of the menu if anyone's interested. They even throw in a fashion show! Models wearing spring fashions for ladies will be roaming around the restaurant. :-) Especially for Cinco de Mayo (2 days early) NOT A COMPLETE MENU Carving Station Mexican Spice Rubbed Pork Loin Cold Table Chayote Squash Salad 3 Bean Tomatillo Salad Jicama Salad (yum!) Potato and Green Chili Salad Mexican Deviled Eggs Sweet Potato and Mexican Oregano Salad Spanish Rice and Corn Salad Soups Chilled Avocado and Lime Soup Tortilla Soup Hot Buffet Huevos Rancheros Spanish Breakfast Potatoes with Chorizo, Spanish Onions, and Bell Peppers Cheese Blintzes topped with Mango, Tomatoes, and Mint Glaze Free Range Chicken with A Mexican Chocolate Rub with Fresh Soffrito (not sure what Soffrito is . . . ) Stake and Pepper Quesadilla with Monterey Jack cheese Crispy Pan Fried White Fish with a Corn, Black Bean, and Cilantro Salsa Mexican Style Rice with Scallions Dessert Mexican Rice Pudding Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries (not Mexican-themed, but I love them so I listed them anyway) $29.95/person, $12.00 children 5-12, free for children under 5. cost includes coffee, tea, and juice. Tosca tends to be pricey (due to the use of local ingredients?), so I only made a reservation for 6, but the group size is expandable . . .

PLEASE NOTE THE BUILDING IS ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE OFF-TRACK BETTING, WHICH IS INSIDE THE PARKING GARAGE. THE ATRIUM IS NOT GLASS IN THE PART VISIBLE FROM THE PARKING GARAGE. Sam Handren of Clover Mead Farms LOVES cheese, and he can talk about it all day. And he's willing to, with us! No minimum number of attendees are required. If you want a specific subtopic covered, let me know and I'll pass on your request. This farm seems to deal primarily with grassfed cows, and medium to hard cheeses such as Gouda and Courenne, although I have purchased their excellent mozzarella. Also note that the cheese vendors of the Troy Farmer's Market very rarely bring all their varieties of cheese with them each week. You can come early to the market a bit early and eat a Caribbean lunch. If you want Mrs. London's pastries (divine!), you probably need to show up before 11 a.m. (I can give recommendations of where to kill time depending on your interests.) Thai/Indian brunch from Thunder Mountain Curry may or may not be available. http://www.troymarke t.org/index.php?opti on=com_content&t ask=view&id=28& Itemid=44 The Troy Farmer's Market will NOT be at the Marina. They will be at their winter location, the Uncle Sam Atrium (has several other names, I believe). The atrium takes up the entire block between 3rd St. and 4th St., Fulton and Broadway. Please note there are some one-way streets in that area. Below are directions to the nearest parking garage, for those of you who dislike street parking. From Albany Take 787 North and take Exit 8 (for Watervliet, 23rd St., and Green Island). Turn right at end of ramp onto Lower Hudson Ave. (don't worry if you don't see a sign). Drive 0.4 miles (you'll see a strip mall on your left) and make a right (also on Lower Hudson Ave.) towards and onto the Green Island Bridge. Cross bridge and make a right at the first traffic light onto River St./US-4. You'll curve around a hotel (Franklin Square Inn & Suites). Immediately before the first traffic light (2nd St. and Fulton/River), there will be an entrance to a parking deck. (The Uncle Sam Atrium is the two-story building you see on the left, immediately after the traffic light.) The Atrium is across the street from the off-track betting place in the parking garage. From Latham/Saratoga Take Rt. 7 east bound across the Collar City Bridge. Take downtown Troy exit IMMEDIATELY. Do not continue onto Hoosick St. Make a right onto Hutton. At the end of Hutton, make a left onto River St./US-4. Cross traffic light at Federal Ave./Green Island Bridge. If you miss Hutton, make a right at the traffic light onto Federal. Make a left at the light immediately before the bridge, curve around the hotel, and follow the above. From Latham/Saratoga Let me know if you have transportation issues. I'm sure we can work something out. Call my cell at 908-268-7317 if you get lost.

If you haven't had dim sum before, it's an experience you should try at least once. The experience is somewhat like a meal of tapas. You order a bunch of little dishes and snack your way through. Dishes can be sweet or savory. Arrive with an empty stomach! The best way to try dim sum is with a large group! The more people, the more variety of dishes. :-) CCK is currently run by the former proprietor of Ocean's Palace, so this restaurant has a good reputation. Notes: Dim sum is NOT eating-restriction friendly. There is lots of sweets, lots of seafood, and lots of pork. Also, arriving a bit early helps when trying to get a large table. Please call my cell at 908-268-7317 if you need to change your RSVP at the last minute. It's much harder to deal with a restaurant if the head count fluctuates a lot.

Karavalli prides itself on representing the cuisine of multiple regions of India. Buffet includes plentiful vegetarian options and dessert. Brunch runs about $15, including tax. It's an excellent bargain--they include a potato filled dosai, which they normally charge maybe $5 for. Please call me at 908-268-7317 if you change your RSVP at the last minute.
