Many small farmer's markets have sprung up in the last few years in various parts of the city. The first organic market in the city was the Onion Creek Market on 6th Street in the Heights and that will be our first stop. These markets have come to have more prepared foods than produce. We will see what they have.
Our next stop will be the Airline Farmer's Market. Canino's has been in this location since the 1930's or '40's. Mr. Canino still wanders through the market from time to time. He comes from an Italian family that has been in the produce business for generations. Canino's carries many kinds of nuts in the winter -- in and out of the shells -- with pecans labeled as to variety. In the summer machines noisly shell beans and field peas. At Canino's you can buy by the pound and by the piece. Behind Canino's are the colorful Mexican market stalls with a great variety of produce which can be purchased by the basket.
Our next stop will be B&W Meat Co. on N. Shepherd. B&W carries traditional cuts of meat. We will do a quick walk-through this old-fashioned full-service business.
Our last stop will be Nundini's, an Italian import and deli where we will have lunch. See: http://www.nundini.co... and click on the three icons to see gelato flavors, imported goods, and the deli menu.
Those not interested in the meat market can go directly from the Airline Farmer's Market to Nundini's and organize tables for our arrival.
